Manu Propria 'Sakuragawa' : branch or fountain pen ?
We have a Manu Propria Sakuragawa in the house ! It is a stunning fountain pen. It looks like a branch and although it is pretty long it feels very comfortable in the hand. Like all urushi pens it has a warm touch and feel.
Sakuragawa nuri is an urushi technique called ‘cherry bark lacquer’ . This technique imitates the color and surface of a cherry tree bark. In Japan the bark of the cherry tree has been used to decorate objects called "kabazaiku", tea and kitchen utensils like tea caddies, trays but also small furnitures, sword sheets, calligraphy brushes, smoking accessories and more.

Sailor launches new series "Koshu Inden".
Sailor launches a new series with "Koshu Inden" an old Japanese leather craft decorated with traditional patterns in urushi lacquer. Sailor chose 2 traditional motifs : the “Sakura cherry blossom” on a red leather and the “Saya Sheath” on a black leather. An elegant pen with a 14kt gold nib and a length of 133 mm when closed and diameter of 17 mm. These pens are made in very small quantities and it is expected that they will be high in demand ! Fascinated by Urushi and passionate about japanese fountain pens Martin Pauli starts to make is own urushi pens. His moto : "Handmade from scratch".
