Sailor Enryu Ebonite Limited Edition Fountain Pen
Sailor Enryu Ebonite Limited Edition Fountain Pen
Each year, Sailor releases a limited edition ebonite fountain pen inspired by a masterpiece of traditional Japanese art. The 2026 release takes inspiration from "Dragon in Clouds (Unryu)" by Hiroshige Utagawa.
Portraying the dragon only partially, the masterpiece boldly depicts just its head and claws for a sophisticated "less is more" approach. Hiroshige illustrated this descending dragon in a vertical composition late in his life, and Sailor drew from this dramatically bold artwork to bring the image to life in ebonite.
The colourful ebonite of the Sailor Enryu fountain pen is crafted using the Chirashi technique, giving it a powerful, impressive appeal. Because ebonite is made in layers, each pen is entirely unique, with natural serendipity creating different lines and figures on every piece.
Engraved with its own serial number, the ENRYU fountain pen comes mounted with Sailor's unsurpassed 21kt Naginata Togi nib. Revel in the pleasing fit of beautiful ebonite between your fingers and enjoy the unmatched experience of writing with the unique Naginata Togi nib.
Hiroshige Utagawa (1797-1858) was a renowned Ukiyo-e artist of the late Edo period. Born in Edo (present-day Tokyo) in 1797, he trained in the Utagawa school of Ukiyo-e art, beginning with portraits of Kabuki actors and Samurai warriors. Later on in his career, he was influenced by Hokusai Katsushika and turned to landscape portrayal. His lyrical expressions of landscapes, published in compilations such as “The 53 Stations of Tokaido”, “The 69 Stations of Kisokaido” and “One Hundred Famous Views of Edo”, created a new genre of Ukiyo-e art.
