Nawate III Kuroginhaku Ei Fountain Pen * Sailor
Nawate Kuroginhaku
The NAWATE Fountain Pen Kuroginhaku Collection presents Sei (惺) in a lustrous glossy finish and Ei (影) in an elegant matte finish. Layers of Urushi lacquer are brushed on in irregular strokes, upon which Kuroginhaku—black silver foil—are delicately and purposefully scattered. This intricate process reveals remarkable depth, subtle gradations, and shifting expressions under changing light—nuances impossible to achieve with a uniform black surface.
Sei (惺) shines like a radiant star against the jet-black night sky, while Ei (影) gently emerges under the tranquil illumination of moonlight. Together, they embody the elegance and profound beauty of black.
Lacquer artist Toru Yoshida, the third-generation head of Shikko Yoshida, an Urushi (Japanese lacquer) atelier in the Aizu Wakamatsu region, transcends the boundaries of the traditional Aizu-nuri lacquering technique. He fuses various styles and methods to best complement each individual piece he creates.
His ingenuity gave rise to Sailor Pen’s Traditional Japanese Lacquer Art NAWATE Haku-chirashi Fountain Pens. The vertical striations flowing through the cap lend it a visually elongated form and provide a secure, balanced grip when capping or uncapping. It is a true masterpiece of beautility—the perfect harmony of beauty and utility.
