CL. Ishime Kuro-tamenuri Cigar Long Fountain Pen * Nakaya
The Nakaya Long Cigar Ishime Kuro-tamenuri fountain pen is made entirely of ebonite and is lacquered with a Wajima Urushi. As ebonite is a lightweight material, it is possible to make the barrel longer without compromising the writing experience.
Ishime(ji) nuri is the term for lacquerware that imitates a stone or sand structure. The art of imitating stone structures is highly appreciated in Japanese culture.
Cured (urushi) lacquer layers that are pulverized into a granular powder are called kanshitsu. Sprinkling the kanshitsu on a semi-wet urushi substrate creates a granular surface associated with a sand or stone texture. Rough kanshitsu results in a more robust ishime, fine kanshitsu in a soft ishime. Ishime Kanshitsu finishes usually have a satiny gloss. The Ishime Kanshitsu on this version has been combined with a tamenuri finish and adds an extra color dimension to this special fountain pen.
Important note: Urushi doesn't like direct sunlight, so keep your pens with their precious Urushi lacquer in a protected environment. A pen pouch, pen case or closed drawer is sufficient.
Nakaya is one of Japan's oldest and most important producers of writing instruments. The sober designs give Nakaya fountain pens their universal appeal. The wonderful lacquering and Maki-e techniques make them real works of art. Nakaya fountain pens are a must for any collection.
