Description:

The Nakaya fountain pen 'Dragons in the Clouds' shows striking dragons, crafted from silver powder, emerging from the clouds. The Togi-kiri Maki-e technique gives the dragon's body and its fiery flames a texture similar to that of a sumi ink painting. The surrounding clouds, in a soft, hazy appearance, are created with silver powder in a Bokashi (gradation) technique. And a touch of dark red powder mixed with silver gives the Ka-en (fire flame) a subtle, fiery hue. The silver dragons truly stand out on the black body, creating a powerful and dynamic final image.

You can admire the inspiration for this fountain pen on the ceiling of the Kyoto Kennin-ji Temple, an 11.4 m by 15.7m work of art painted by Koizumi Junsaku (1924 – 2012) to commemorate the 800th anniversary of Kennin-ji’s founding. The “Twin Dragon Ceiling” is drawn with ink on thick Japanese traditional paper. As you walk into the Hondō Hall, you’ll be in awe of not just the scale of the painting but also the beautiful detailing that has gone into creating this work of art.
