Description:

The design of this delightful Wild Strawberry fountain pen is based on the Yakou Maki-e technique. On the aka-tamenuri background a motif is applied in thick black urushi lacquer (Yakou-maki-e). Large abalone seashell splinters (Raden) have been tastefully added as a finishing touch, resulting in a real work of art. The dark Aka-tame-nuri background maintains the balance of the entire design. The flower motifs are inspired by famous Wedgwood tableware. The details of the veins of the leaves, the delicate stamen, the pistil and the pollen of the flower are painted with gold Urushi on the seashell splinters, and Urushi lacquer is then applied. The barrel and details of the pen will lighten with the passage of time and then stabilise. A wonderful yet functional masterpiece.

Important note: Urushi doesn't like direct sunlight, so keep your pens with their precious Urushi lacquer in a protected environment. A pen pouch, pen case or closed drawer is sufficient.

Nakaya is one of Japan's oldest and most important producers of writing instruments. The history of Nakaya is closely tied up with the Platinum company. For one thing, the two companies share the same founder, Syunichi Nakata, who started out in business in 1919. In time, the brand name "Nakaya" disappeared and made way for "Platinum". Today, however, Toshiya Nakata, the grandson of Syunichi Nakata, is once again at the helm of these two renowned brands.
