Misako Azumai

Misako Azumai was born in Kyoto and studied lacquering techniques at the renowned Kyoto School of Traditional Art. Her work was first noticed at the MIA exhibition in Italy and she was an instant success. While she was studying the traditional Kyo Maki-e technique, she was apprenticed to Master Tadao Kunieda, and she developed her own particular technique, which has won international recognition for its delicate, feminine style. She has made a name for herself in this specialised artistic niche, and since 2007 she has been producing top-quality Kyo Maki-e artwork for exquisite writing instruments for, among others, the Sailor Pen Company.
