Description:

Note: The term nurippanashi was recently changed into nuri-hanashi but the finish itself remains the same.

This Shu-nurihanashi Writer Portable fountain pen is made of ebonite and is lacquered with a Wajima Urushi. As ebonite is a very lightweight material, it is possible to make the barrel thicker and longer without adding too much weight. Thanks to the designer's success in finding the perfect point of equilibrium, this pen provides a comfortable writing experience for everyone.

Shu Nurihanashi exists of a black urushi base layer, on which only two top layers of red coatings are painted. The black base color is slightly visible. It creates a finish that resembles Negoro-Nuri lacquerware. The Shu top coat is not polished which results in a subtle satin finish. Negoro Nuri is a lacquer technique from the 14th century, and artifacts made from this technique are highly coveted amongst collectors.

Important note: Urushi doesn't like direct sunlight, so keep your pens with their precious Urushi lacquer in a protected environment. A pen pouch, pen case or closed drawer is sufficient.

Nakaya is one of Japan's oldest and most important producers of writing instruments. The history of Nakaya is closely tied up with the Platinum company. For one thing, the two companies share the same founder, Syunichi Nakata, who started out in business in 1919. In time, the brand name "Nakaya" disappeared and made way for "Platinum". Today, however, Toshiya Nakata, the grandson of Syunichi Nakata, is once again at the helm of these two renowned brands.
