Description:

Kawari-nuri is overall term used for “experimental lacquers”. There is an indefinite number of experimental lacquers and each artisan has his own way of producing his kawari-nuri. Martin Pauli named his kawari-nuri “Namban” as an abstract referal to the Japanese Namban art which evolved after the encounters with the art of “Southern Barberians” (read explorers from Portugal and Spain) in 1543. The Namban Art combined foreign subjects with Japanese style of painting and Maki-e.

Martin Pauli achieved this Manu Propria Shibui Namban by applying many circles of urushi which are sprinkled with different metal powders like gold, silver, platinum, copper, tin, iron and mother of pearl. Like all urushi pens it has a warm touch and feel.

Note: Urushi doesn't like direct sunlight, so keep your pens with their precious Urushi lacquer in a protected environment. A pen pouch, pen case or closed drawer is sufficient.
