Description:

Pelikan Maki-e "Phoenix "fountain pen is a masterpiece that fuses Pelikan's craftsmanship and superior Japanese Maki-e. Each Souverän M1000 fountain pen is produced in Germany and then decorated in Japan. Every pen has the Pelikan logo on the crown, a limited-edition number, and the artist's signature. The "Phoenix," released in 2022, is available in a limited edition of only 123 pieces worldwide. Each fountain pen is equipped with a finely chased 18-carat, two-tone gold nib and comes in a traditional Japanese pen box of paulownia wood.

Maki-e is a complex art of Japanese lacquer painting, and it is renowned for its beauty and artistry. A design is drawn with colored lacquer on the surface of a fountain pen, and many layers applied on top are polished repeatedly. This technique is called Togidashi-Maki-e.

In addition, the artist can mix charcoal powder and gold powder into the lacquer so that the pattern rises above the surface. This is the so-called Taka-Maki-e technique. For the Pelikan fountain pen model "Phoenix," the Maki-e artist has blended both techniques.

According to Chinese legends, the Phoenix features the entire universe. Its head represents the sky, the eyes are the sun, the back is the moon, the legs are the earth, and the tail is a planet. It is a legendary spiritual bird appearing in East Asia myths, ornaments, works of art, and architecture. It is a symbol of virtue, wisdom, beauty, and goodness and stands for harmony, peace, femininity, beauty, prosperity, expansion, ascent, and success.
